Q. Who can participate in the competition?
A. Undergraduate and graduate design students currently enrolled at a school or university and graduates from 2012 and later.
Q. What should the submission idea be?
A. Previously Design Lab has been a competition for future household appliances. In 2013 the Design Lab competition is expanded to search for design solutions on a wider scale: ideas with products, accessories, consumables and services for future households are accepted.
Q. What is a consumable?
A. Consumables are goods that can be consumed. An example of a consumable in the food industry is a coffee capsule, which is used together with an appliance, a coffee capsule coffee machine.
Q. I’m not studying Industrial Design but I really want to enter Electrolux Design Lab, can I enter?
A. Electrolux Design Lab was previously open only for Industrial Design Students, but is now open also beyond the Industrial Design scope: this year the competition is open to all Design Students and recent Design Graduates (graduation taking place in 2012 or anytime after).
Q. What happens after I have submitted my design?
A. After you have submitted your design the Electrolux professionals will review your work and if you are chosen to the next submission stage you will be notified by e-mail and your work will be placed online. Please read more about the submission stages and requirements in the 2013 Rules section.
Q. If I graduate in 2012 or later can I still participate in the competition?

Q. How do I register my entry?
A. A submission page will be opened in mid February 2013, which will be communicated on the Electrolux Design Lab page.
Q. What is the last day I can register my entry?
A. March 15th, 2013 (23:59.59 Central European Time)
Q. When will the finalists be announced?
A. We aim to announce the semi-finalists in June 2013 and the final ten in September 2013.

Q. What should my submission include and what format should it be in?
Your first and last name, contact details (email, mobile phone number), and university name.
Your submission with a written and visual presentation of your concept idea:
Title: maximum 25 characters (incl. spaces)
Brief Description: maximum 150 characters (incl. spaces)
Description: maximum 650 characters (incl. spaces)

Q. What is the brief?

The Electrolux Design Lab panel will focus on the following key criteria when looking at your design:
• Does the design truly answer the brief?
• Does it encompass intuitive design?
• Is it innovative?
• Has it been based on consumer insight?
• Is the concept aesthetically pleasing?
Q. What are the prizes?
1st prize: €5,000 + 6 months’ paid internship at an Electrolux global design center.
2nd prize: €3,000
3rd prize: €2,000
